Our Energy Efficient Homes
When Westerra Homes first started looking for the perfect
eco-conscious community to start building our homes in, we remained
conscious of client's expectations and needs for an energy
efficient home. We wanted to set up shop in an area that was an
up-and-coming area that was environmentally conscious. Thankfully,
Kemptville and the greater North
Grenville area, known as the "Green and Growing" region, embraced
the opportunity to have Westerra Homes begin building its Energy
Star approved homes.
Energy Star Approved
Forest Creek was the first Energy Star sub-division
south of Ottawa. The entire community of Forest Creek is occupied by
homes that have been tested and certified to meet the Energy
Star standard. In fact Westerra Homes currently meets and
exceeds the Energy Star minimum standard.

Products bearing the Energy Star symbol help save energy, save
money and protect the environment. Any home product or piece of
equipment that displays the Energy Star symbol is energy efficient
and meets stringent technical specifications.
In 2005, Natural Resources Canada expanded the Energy
Star Initiative in Canada to include energy-efficient new homes.
According to NRC, Energy Star qualified new homes are approximately
30 to 40 percent more energy efficient than those
built to minimum Ontario building code standards. The increased
efficiency of these homes translates into reduced energy costs for
homeowners.
What does that mean for Westerra Homeowners?
Typical energy efficiency measures for Energy Star homes
include:
- insulation upgrades;
- high-performance windows;
- superior draft proofing;
- high efficient heating, hot water and air conditioning
systems;
- sealed ducts for better air distribution and increased energy
efficiency.
The benefits to the new Westerra homeowners are:
- lower energy bills;
- improved comfort;
- government-backed quality assurance;
- lower impact on the environment;
- higher re-sale value.
